Kiln stilts are used for glazed, low-fire, or earthenware firings to prevent the glaze from adhering to the kiln shelf. Rather than placing glazed bisque directly on the shelf, stilts support the piece and keep it from sticking during firing.

The 90 mm stilt is made from durable ceramic refractory material with a molded base for superior stability and precision-refined high-temperature metal points that maintain their shape through repeated firings. These sharp, milled tips leave the smallest, cleanest marks possible after glazing and firing.

Designed to handle a wide variety of bisque shapes—from flat-bottomed pieces to irregular forms—this stilt is ideal for supporting plates, dishes, mugs, and similar ware. When stilting, ensure the points sit just inside the foot ring or lip of the bottom. Avoid using an undersized stilt; for example, a five-inch plate should be supported by at least a three- to four-inch stilt. Using a stilt that’s too small can cause pieces to tilt or slide into others.

These stilts are rated for use up to Cone 10, making them a versatile choice for both low- and mid-range firing applications.
